Important Law Library Information for Finals

Please read below for important Library information for finals:

Conference Rooms

PLEASE NOTE:  You will not be able to delete your conference room reservations during the reading/examination period (beginning April 21).

In anticipation of the conference rooms being even more heavily used this time of year—with a number of “first-timers” joining in—I wanted to remind everyone that conference room reservations are now handled online by going to http://rooms.law.ucla.edu. You will need to login with your LawNet credentials (depending on where you are when you login, you may need to add LAWNET in front of your username as follows: LAWNET\username). If you need assistance with the login, please don’t hesitate to ask for help at the circulation desk. I’d also like to remind you that your M70 key will get you into the rooms. Remember that you can only make one reservation per day for a maximum of three hours and reservations can only be made the same day. More information about the Conference Rooms is available on the web at: http://www.law.ucla.edu/home/index.asp?page=2567

Extended Library and After Hours Reading Room Hours for Finals

Since we do not advertise our extended hours to the public, you will need to visit the "Library Finals Policies" page on the Intranet for the listing of hours.

Limited Access Policy

We are also instituting a more restrictive access policy for the exam study period. From 4/21 – 5/12 we will not make any UC user access tickets available, and UC users will have to establish that they have specific need of Law Library materials (by showing us a course assignment or a letter from a professor) before they will be allowed in the Library.

Please let me know if you have any comments, questions or suggestions.

Good luck on Finals!

Conference Room Reservation System Policy Change

Due to student demand, we have changed the policy in the Conference Room Reservation system to allow students to cancel/delete their own reservations.  However, this policy will be changed back during finals so that room cancellations must be made by stopping by or calling the circulation desk ((310)825-3960).  Because these rooms are very heavily used during the examination and reading period, we want to make sure that the most number of students will have access to them and that reservations are more likely to be kept once made.

Reminder about Library's "No Food" Policy

Dear Students,

By now, you have hopefully seen the email sent around last Thursday by Dean Cheadle regarding food in the library. I wanted to follow up with you to let you know that starting tomorrow (9/12), we plan to be very serious about enforcing this policy. We will be instituting rounds of the library by our guards and if you have any food, you will be asked to immediately remove it or throw it away, so I wanted you all to be forewarned.

I am pleased to tell you that we’d like to give a little something back for your understanding and attention to this matter (we’ve noticed a huge improvement already—thank you) and we have relaxed our beverage policy a bit. You may now bring in your bottled water in clear bottles. This does not include other types of beverage bottles or opaque reusable water bottles, because it would be too difficult for us to determine that there is only water in them. If you would like to bring in other beverages, please do so in the UCLA Library and Law Library approved mugs (given to you for free at orientation) or you can now bring in your LexisNexis or Westlaw “no spill” mugs.

Thanks in advance for helping us to keep our library a beautiful, quiet and pest-free place to study.

Donna

Print subscription to Shepard's cancelled

Shepard's Citations now available online through LexisNexis

In conjunction with the cancellation of the Law Library’s print subscription to Shepard’s citations, all print volumes of Shepard’s have been removed from the Main Reading Room and stacks. The library will continue its subscription to Shepard’s online through LexisNexis.  For public patrons, Shepard’s is now available online on Public Terminals 1 and 2 in the Reference Reading Room. Detailed instructions for public patron login are available in between these two Terminals.

The library will retain one copy of Acts and Cases by Popular Name, which will be located behind the desk in the Reference Room.

Library Summer Research Guide CDs

We have placed copies of a CD containing PDF versions of the Law Library Research Guide Series in your law school mailboxes.  (Note to 2Ls & 3Ls:  The CDs contain new and updated guides from the CDs you receive last year). These guides and CDs were prepared by Librarians in the Law Library especially for UCLA Law Students.  Students in past years have described the Guides as invaluable in assisting them with their summer research assignments. Accompanying the CD is a letter outlining LexisNexis and Westlaw policies for summer use.  The research guides and other important summer research information may also be found on the Library Website.
