Law Library Research Guide CDs

On Wednesday, 4/16, we will place copies of a CD containing PDF versions of the Law Library Research Guide Series in your law school mailboxes.  These guides and CDs were prepared by Librarians in the Law Library especially for UCLA Law Students.  Students in past years have described the Guides as invaluable in assisting them with their summer research assignments. Accompanying the CD is a letter outlining LexisNexis and Westlaw policies for summer use.  The research guides and other important summer research information (including Westlaw & LexisNexis summer password information) may also be found on the Library Website at http://www.law.ucla.edu/home/index.asp?page=1789

Important Law Library Information for Finals

Please read below for important Library information for finals:

Conference Rooms

PLEASE NOTE:  You will not be able to delete your conference room reservations during the reading/examination period (beginning April 21).

In anticipation of the conference rooms being even more heavily used this time of year—with a number of “first-timers” joining in—I wanted to remind everyone that conference room reservations are now handled online by going to http://rooms.law.ucla.edu. You will need to login with your LawNet credentials (depending on where you are when you login, you may need to add LAWNET in front of your username as follows: LAWNET\username). If you need assistance with the login, please don’t hesitate to ask for help at the circulation desk. I’d also like to remind you that your M70 key will get you into the rooms. Remember that you can only make one reservation per day for a maximum of three hours and reservations can only be made the same day. More information about the Conference Rooms is available on the web at: http://www.law.ucla.edu/home/index.asp?page=2567

Extended Library and After Hours Reading Room Hours for Finals

Since we do not advertise our extended hours to the public, you will need to visit the "Library Finals Policies" page on the Intranet for the listing of hours.

Limited Access Policy

We are also instituting a more restrictive access policy for the exam study period. From 4/21 – 5/12 we will not make any UC user access tickets available, and UC users will have to establish that they have specific need of Law Library materials (by showing us a course assignment or a letter from a professor) before they will be allowed in the Library.

Please let me know if you have any comments, questions or suggestions.

Good luck on Finals!

A Dining Guide to Westwood Village

Wondering where to get a good burger in Westwood?  Looking for some great coffee?  Here's a quick guide to some of my favorite places in the Village. In addition to my list, you can find a more complete (but slightly out of date) listing of restaurants (and stores and theaters) at Westwood Village Online.

Good food, fast (here are a few notables):

  • Damon & Pythias (1061 Broxton) - The Turkey Club and garlic fries are standouts!
  • Le Pain Quotidien (1055 Broxton Ave.) - A bit pricier than the others, but it's all good!
  • Falafel King (1051 Broxton) - Excellent falafel, shawarma and sauces!
  • Corner Bakery Cafe (1019 Westwood Blvd.) - The soups and pastries are fantastic!
  • Lamonica's New York Pizza (1066 Gayley Ave.) - Quintessential pizza! You can buy pizza by the slice.
  • In-n-Out Burger at Gayley & LeConte (922 Gayley Ave.)
  • Fatburger (10955 Kinross Ave., near the entrance to Lot 32)
  • Baja Fresh (10916 Lindbrook Ave.)
  • Sepi's Giant Submarines (10968 Le Conte Ave.) - A UCLA favorite.  Super cheap and has beer by the pitcher!
  • Daphne's Greek Cafe (10889 Lindbrook Ave.)
  • Noodle Planet (1118 Westwood Blvd.)
  • Native Foods (1110 1/2 Gayley Ave.) - Excellent Vegetarian and Vegan food!

Coffee:

Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf are well represented in Westwood, but you can find the best coffee at Peet's Coffee & Tea  (1154 Westwood).

Cookies & Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt:

  • Diddy Riese - I would be remiss if I didn't mention this Westwood institution (926 Broxton Ave.).  Think Mrs. Field's-like goodness at a fraction of the cost.  They are famous for their build your own ice cream sandwiches--a bargain at $1.50 (and you can even plan out what you want ahead of time by using their "ice cream sandwich builder page").
  • Pinkberry - (10911 Lindbrook) aka "Crackberry" has grown from one small store in West Hollywood to almost 50 stores in California and New York in three short years. A cultural phenomenon!  (Be sure to check out the Pinkberry song on YouTube!)

Campus Food Highlights:

  • Jamba Juice in Ackerman Union--reportedly the largest Jamba Juice store to date.
  • Espresso Roma at the Anderson School of Management - A changing selection of great salads, sandwiches and hot entrees with the best coffee on campus.

Groceries:

Best of the best just off campus (all are on Big Blue Bus Lines, as noted)

  • Poquito Mas - (2215  Westwood Blvd., Bus line 8 or 12) - My absolute favorite Mexican fast food chain.
  • Feast from the East (1949 Westwood Blvd., Bus line 8 or 12) - The best Chinese Chicken salad in town.
  • Apple Pan - (10801 W. Pico Blvd., Bus line 8 or 12, get off at Pico and go one block east) This L.A. landmark is famous for its burgers and apple pie.  You simply must try it! (Read about Apple Pan on Wikipedia)
  • Zankou Chicken - (1716 S. Sepulveda, Bus Line 1, get off at Sepulveda and go south)  Probably the best chicken in town (it was even mentioned in a Beck song).
  • New India Grill - (1321 Westwood Blvd, Bus lines 1, 8 or 12) notable for its inexpensive all you can eat lunch buffet (newly remodeled and expanded restaurant)
