The Westwood Crest Theatre

Welcome to the latest installment of (Re)Discover L.A. Summertime is almost done (as far as the UCLA School of Law is concerned) and you may need something to do one night or weekend. Well look no further than Westwood Blvd to the Westwood Crest Theatre. Located at 1262 Westwood Blvd just south of Wilshire Blvd this theater provides a combination of a night out at the movies along with a neighborhood feel. With a look of yesteryear on the outside and beautiful murals on the inside (visable during the movies and while you wait before the show) the Crest is a refreshing change from the norm evident as soon as you step inside to buy your tickets. Since there is only one theater you really don't need directions but they still have ushers to welcome you in. And on most nights the owner of the Crest is out taking your tickets and greeting you too. After you grab your snacks for the show (no outside food of course) be sure to leave time before the show to view the murals inside the theater that cover both walls. Look carefully for moving items. There are both twinkling and shooting stars as well as other fun things to look for. If you should have the time to make it to an opening night be sure to get there early. They usually have contests and prizes before the show. They can range from trivia questions to singing contests. Usually done for the younger audience, all are welcome to participate. And of course once the curtains go up (yes curtains) and the movie begins you cannot help but feel a flash of the old drive-in with the glow in the dark mural providing the stars and night skyline while you watch the movie (but in the comfort of an indoor movie theater). So be sure to take a night an enjoy the Westwood Crest Theatre.
