Question from Law Student posted to the Question/Suggestion Box

I hope that you are doing well. I have a question and possible request for the library. Does the library have materials for law students/attorneys in translating; either a Spanish and English Legal Dictionary or a set of books that assist attorneys with brushing up on Spanish skills? If not, can the library purchase one? I have had hard time translating several documents into Spanish due to the technical, legalese language that is necessary. I am a current 3L.

Hi. Yes, the library has a number of resources you can use to assist in translating legal materials from Spanish to English. Perhaps the most helpful are three Spanish law dictionaries located in the reference reading room:

  1. Title: Spanish law dictionary : Spanish/English, English/Spanish
Location: Law Library Reference Reading Room
    Call Number: K52.S6 S67 1999
  2. Title: Dahl's law dictionary: Spanish-English/English-Spanish: an annotated legal dictionary, including authoritative
definitions from codes, case law, statutes, legal writing, international treaties and legal opinions from attorneys general Location: Law Library Reference Reading Room
    Call Number: K52.S6 D33 2005
  3. Title: West's Spanish-English, English-Spanish law dictionary: translations of terms, phrases and definitions of
concepts of modern Spanish and English legal terminology
Location: Law Library Reference Reading Room
    Call Number: K52.S6 S65 1992

I hope these meet your needs. You can see our other similar resources at call number K52.S6, which is located in the stacks on the first floor of the library. Please feel free to come to the reference desk for additional help.
