Farmers Market
Hello all and welcome to the first installment of (Re)Discover LA.
Some of you may be from out of town and made your new home in Los Angeles and would like a suggestion or two for some things to do and see here while others may be Angelinos born and raised and may have forgotten about or not been to some attractions in a while. So this will be a regular entry of a place or thing to do here in the LA area. Of course your suggestions are always welcome and we encourage you to share your experiences and local treasures with others too. So that all said let’s visit our first destination.
First stop the Farmers Market on 3rd & Fairfax.
Located on the intersection of 3rd and Fairfax the Farmers Market (no apostrophe) has been a LA fixture since 1934. With a variety of shops, restaurants, venders and events, the market has something for everyone.
Hungry? Stop in and enjoy the open air dinning (lots of shade available too) with a variety of foods: Great grilled food, fresh fruit, NY deli style sandwiches, BBQ, Seafood, Greek & Middle Eastern, Brazilian, Chinese, Cajun, Italian, Mexican and so much more.
Looking for a snack instead? Well there is no shortage of that either: Homemade candy, nuts, pastries, Bob’s Coffee & Doughnuts (if you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and swing by), ice cream, caramel apples, toffee, peanut brittle and many other delightful treats.
While you're there you can take care of your grocery shopping too. The Farmers market offers a variety of venders with fresh fruit, fresh seafood, meat & poultry and bakeries. If you need it or want it, chances are that someone there will have it. In addition, if souvenir or knickknacks are more your speed there is plenty of that as well. A host of variety and novelty shops as well as gift shops are interweaved almost the culinary delights. All sorts of collectables from hot sauce shops to LA memorabilia to art boutiques.
They also host a variety of events there as well. So bring your friends, your family, yourself and get out and enjoy the weather, have some lunch and a snack and sample one of LA’s true treasures. And as if that is not enough, the Grove is right next door but we’ll leave that for another entry…
